Graduate Certificate in Quality Improvement in Health Care
The Graduate Certificate in Quality Improvement in Health Care offers you a uniquely well-rounded program that brings together the experience of Eastern Michigan University's College of Business (Management), School of Engineering Technology (Quality Improvement) and College of Health and Human Services (Nursing and Health Administration). At the completion of this certificate, you'll be able to:
- Synthesize knowledge and concepts related to Quality Improvement (QI) in a health care arena
- Select and utilize appropriate mechanisms for gathering, analyzing and reporting QI data
- Assess the legal and ethical implications of quality improvement initiatives
- Lead QI initiatives in health care settings.

Accreditation
The EMU School of Nursing is accredited by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. The College of Business is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Program of Study
The graduate certificate in continuous quality improvement in health care requires 12 credits hours of
graduate coursework. And, if you decide to pursue future study, all of
your courses may be applied towards a Master of Science in Nursing or
a Master of Science in Quality, offered through EMU's School of
Engineering Technology. There are nine credits of required courses for
the program:
- NURS 605 Health Status Trends and Health Care Delivery Systems (3)
- NURS 686 Practicum in QI in Health Care Systems (3)
- HLAD 525 Quality Improvement in Health Care (3)
- The remaining three credits can be selected from the following list of program electives:
- MGMT 638 Building Continuous Improvement Teams (3)
- QUAL 557 Measuring Customer Satisfaction (3)
- QUAL 552 Quality Planning (3)
Course Sequence
Classes are scheduled and designed specifically for the working adult. Courses are held at EMU-Livonia on weekday evenings and the entire program can be completed by taking courses one-night-a-week. Located at Six Mile Road and I-275, EMU-Livonia offers a professional learning environment, computer lab, on-site advising and support and free and ample parking.
